What Are You Good At?

Just like in life, so in dowsing. Everyone is good at something but nobody is good at everything.

Some people might be good at a couple of things,  like wallpapering and gardening.

It's exactly the same in dowsing. And that can cause some problems.

When learning to dowse, the temptation is to think that whatever you dowse about you have an equal chance of success. And, because you're starting out and full of optimism and interest in this new skill, you think that every time you dowse you should be spot and accurate.

Well, the truth is that every dowser is good at dowsing something. Some dowsers are simply excellent at dowsing for water, whilst others are great at finding lost objects and still others are superb at some form of health dowsing.

The point is, that the water dowser is not necessarily any good at all at health dowsing. And the health dowser couldn't find water if you stood him in a bucket of it.

And the point of this is….it doesn't matter!

Find YOUR skill

Wanting to be good at dowsing is fine and great. But wanting to be good at all forms of dowsing is not a reasonable goal.

Think of what you are good at in your life and what you will happily let others do instead. And then apply that concept to dowsing.

One of the reasons for this problem is to think that dowsing is some sort of psychic gift and that, of course, psychic gifts, being given to you, are naturally better than your human limited gifts.

But dowsing is not a psychic skill. It is entirely natural. Nothing else. And because it's a human skill, you can make it better, more accurate, by practicing. The more practice you put in, the better you will be. Again, if you think dowsing is psychic, then why bother practicing? After all, you're either psychic or you're not.

Well, as you're human and dowsing is entirely a human-based skill, then the more you do it in the areas you are drawn to, the better you will be.

So, if you find yourself drawn to health dowsing, then go ahead and spend time on it. If you are drawn to dowsing about numbers (stock prices, finances and so on), then practice that. Find out what you are good at and keep honing that skill.

Remember the words of Samuel Goldwyn. ‘The harder I work, the luckier I get.' Only, with dowsing, it's ‘The more I practice, the better I get.'

So, don't just sit there! Get dowsing!

The Myth About Psychic Powers

I'm Normal! What About You?

People sometimes tell me that they don't think they can dowse well because they don't have psychic powers. (Dowsing is often listed as a psychic ability.)

Their assumptions about the nature of ‘psychic powers' is limited to the connotations they find in the media. Therefore, they draw the following conclusions about dowsing (and other psychic powers):

  • Not many people can dowse or dowse well
  • Dowsing is a freaky activity for weird people
  • Dowsing is probably a hoax
  • Dowsers are delusional
  • Dowsing must be proven scientifically

People avoid activities that are seen as freakish, weird or unacceptable, especially if they are going to be challenged to prove their beliefs. So although dowsing attracts a lot of people, most of them don't pursue it in depth or use it seriously.

While I'm not saying this is the result of an ongoing, organized conspiracy, it's definitely the result of conscious efforts to mold public opinion. For hundreds of years, authorities have been working hard to erase the impression that humans have self-empowering intuitive abilities.

Whether the Church is burning witches or condemning dowsing, or the scientific establishment is hollering about ‘scientific proof', we are surrounded by constant attempts to marginalize and scoff at intuitive sensing abilities.

Who benefits? Those who want to do your thinking for you.

Perhaps the best strategy for marginalizing natural intuitive sensing abilities is to label them as ‘psychic', then smear anyone who embraces psychic abilities. Scoff, demand proof, debunk them. Pretty soon, people accept that psychic abilities aren't even real, or if they exist, they are rare and freaky. So they opt to go with the crowd.

Stop wanting psychic powers – and dowse!

Being a part of the crowd is comforting in many ways. It also offers a degree of anonymity that appears to provide a measure of safety. I'm sure herd animals feel the same way. They feel powerless without the crowd. But is that really how we are meant to experience life?

My opinion, based on years of experience and my training in Biology, is that humans have natural sensing capabilities that have not been described by science. I believe the right brain and intuition are here to help our rational mind make balanced, successful choices.

Our culture has labeled those abilities as ‘psychic'. We have buried them so deep that most people never find them. But if unleashed, those natural abilities can help you create a happy, healthy, successful life.

What threatens those in authority is those same empowering abilities will also give you a chance to think for yourself and question those in power. And they really don't want that to happen. People who think for themselves and feel empowered are impossible to control.

Everyone has the ability to use ‘psychic powers'. They are simply natural human abilities. Let's de-mystify intuitive sensing abilities. Become empowered.

Is Dowsing a Psychic Power?

The Best Answer…

Sometime, somewhere, a person will ask whether dowsing is a psychic power. My answer usually will begin with, “It depends…”

Hardly a great answer, but a truthful one.

I hope, if you’ve been reading this blog or poked around on the site, that you will have come to realize that we believe that dowsing is a really very simple skill.

But, if you go stirring the term ‘psychic’ into what's here, then things start changing. For a start, the word ‘psychic’ means different things to different people. It can mean (amongst other things);

  • Being able to tell the future
  • Having a special skill which not many others have
  • Dressing in strange clothes and/or speaking strange words like ‘Akashic records’ or ‘karma’ or ‘spirit guides’
  • Seeing auras and ghosts
  • Speaking with the dead

Which, if you are aware, have nothing to do with the basic skill of dowsing.

The ‘psychic power' of Yes and No

However! It is true to say that, with dowsing you can get involved in those areas I’ve just listed, but you don’t have to. In fact, many dowsers never go near them.

But, if instead of saying what it is you can do with dowsing, you speak instead of HOW you dowse, then the answer changes a little.

Psychics get their answers from somewhere, although nobody actually knows for sure. Exactly the same for dowsers. They get their answers from somewhere and nobody actually knows for sure about them, either.

So, in a way, it does depend on what you think being psychic means and what dowsing allows you to do. In some cases, dowsing will be a psychic power. In others, there is no difference at all and the term, therefore, means nothing.

So, like I said, is dowsing a psychic power? It depends…
