Body dowsing is perhaps the most natural dowsing technique as it requires no tools. Considering that dowsing is a natural human ability, then it makes sense that using the human body itself is the best way of experiencing dowsing.
In body dowsing, the dowser uses his or her body to provide the answer. Instead of the movement of a pendulum or the motion of an l-rod or other tool, the dowser learns which particular body movement is giving the answer.
It should be obvious that this is not a new technique or a new twist on dowsing. In fact, there are many documents recording how various dowsers have used their body to help them gain answers. Most notably, several water dowsers, incredibly successful ones at that, would have specific body responses. For example, one dowser would walk with his hands held out in front of him and wait for a tremor to show him the place to drill a well. Another, when younger, had the more extreme reaction of fainting over water sources, until he was able to control the reaction better. Certainly it was body dowsing, but there are other ways of doing this.
As I said, this is a technique where the physical response is all-important. But, before you begin to think that this is going to be too hard for you to do, you need to realize something.
What you need to realize is that you already are doing this yourself now, without any help. I’m not making this up. Think of the times when you’ve had a feeling that you don’t want to go into some place, or you enter a room and you just know there’s been an argument in there just before. Or, you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach about what to do in a certain situation. That gut feeling.
All of those things are your body giving you messages about something. Something good or bad or to be wary of or to look forward to. That’s what body dowsing is.
Now, the only difference between what happens to you and what happens when dowsers get a body response is that the dowser has asked a specific question which has a yes or a no answer, plus he or she knows which body response to look out for. For some people, it’s a twitch in the hand, for others it’s a feeling at the back of the neck. It could be a tightening of the shoulders, a blink of an eyelid or a weak feeling on one side or the other. The point is, the dowser, by experimenting, has discovered what works best and is the most reliable method.
It doesn’t require you to train your body to give you the answer. Your body has always been doing that for you. All it requires is learning how to ask good questions and then being quiet inside to let the answer come to you.
That’s body dowsing.

Finger dowsing is a type of deviceless dowsing. If you prefer to read instead of watch, the transcript of the video is below.
Finger dowsing is type of deviceless dowsing. That is, it is a type of dowsing where you don’t use any tools other than, in this case, your fingers.
There are numerous ways you can do finger dowsing, but in this video, we’ll keep it simple and only share a couple of popular methods.
But before we go into them in detail, please remember that dowsing is a simple and natural skill everyone can do, which depends on you being in the correct, quiet state of mind after having asked a well-formed and specific question.
Back to finger dowsing. The first, and in some ways, the simplest of all the possible methods, is where you dowse by rubbing your index finger and thumb together.
It sounds too easy to be true, but it works. But, for it to work well you should remember a couple of things. If you’ve just put cream or lotion on your hands, or washed them with soap, it won’t work. It relies on the skin being dry. Also, don’t press the thumb and finger together hard, just enough so that they slide over each other easily.
Ask your question and, if the answer is a ‘yes’, then the finger and thumb feel ‘sticky’. You’re using the exact same pressure as before the question, but now the finger and thumb don’t slide as easily. They stick a little. Obviously, a ‘no’ would show as no change at all in how they move over each other.
A second method of finger dowsing is to link your fingers and thumbs together like a chain. To dowse, you simply ask your question and see if you can break the link by pulling your hands apart. This isn’t a trial of strength, done slowly. It’s a quick motion. All you’re really testing is how your fingers want to react to that tug. If they hold together, it means that the answer is a ‘yes’. And if they break, it’s a ‘no’.
You mustn’t keep tugging and tugging. Ask the question and then a quick pull to see the response. That’s all it takes. Nothing else.
It’s just the same with the finger and thumb rub earlier. You don’t keep moving them to see if it works. Either it will work or it won’t and it will happen quickly.
The beauty about finger dowsing is that it is something which can be done anywhere at any time. Without the need for having tools with you, finger dowsing, or any type of deviceless dowsing, makes the skill much more widely accessible.
Plus, by getting rid of the tool and focusing instead on your own body, you will become a far better dowser more quickly, because, after all, dowsing is all about your body’s response to the question. So if you get rid of the tool, you’re removing one other obstacle between you and the answer.

Deviceless dowsing simply means that no tools are used. The most popular tools which tend to be associated with dowsing like the pendulum, the l rod and the y rod all do the same thing. That is, they show a reaction. The reaction they show is that of the person holding the tool.
In other words, the dowser is always having a response without a tool. The tool merely amplifies that response, that reaction.
But, if you are using a tool, you have to find it, and hold it in the right way. But what if you can’t find the tool? What if you want to dowse but you are a little shy and don’t want people staring at you?
That’s where deviceless dowsing comes into its own. You are always ready to dowse, any time, any place. In fact, it’s the most natural way of dowsing there is.
Remember that dowsing is a simple skill and, no matter whether you are using a tool or not, you need to be in the proper dowsing state to allow the answer to become apparent. And you won’t get a good answer if you ask a poorly phrased question.
Nearly all of the various methods of deviceless dowsing serve to make it much easier to spot the dowsing response. For example, you can use your whole body. It can sway backwards or forwards. Swaying forwards in response to the question means ‘yes’ and swaying backwards means ‘no’.
That is a very obvious way of having your body show you your response. But there are many other ways which are a great deal less obvious and virtually impossible to spot by anyone standing nearby.
For example, you can actually dowse by having your eyelids blink or not blink according to whether the answer is yes or no. Try spotting someone doing that!
Some people find that one deviceless method works better than another for them. Where one person find it easy to dowse using blinking, others might find that rubbing a finger and thumb together works beautifully for them.
The point about deviceless dowsing which is very important to remember is that, because the dowser is concentrating on what his or her body is doing, the more you dowse without tools, just using the body, the easier you will find it, because you are relying on what your body tells you, not a tool.
The more you rely on the body and its responses, the more your natural intuition will develop and the faster you will get to the place where you have the answers appearing quicker and quicker. Plus, let’s not overlook the fact that you will also be far more accurate as a result.
Deviceless dowsing really is the way to go.

Are You Doing This?
What does dowsing have to do with giving your power away? Plenty!
Dowsing is a very powerful activity. It is YOUR powerful activity. You get to choose whether to dowse or not.
Dowsing is so powerful that it can hugely improve your life, but only if you use it.
If it's so powerful and effective, why don't you use dowsing every day? Because of fear.
We've done a lot of surveys of dowsers, and there are many types of fears that stop people from using dowsing more often, but one of the biggest is fear of what others will think of them.
The people whose opinions you most fear are those closest to you. While many dowsers are shy about pulling out a pendulum in a public place, even more are afraid to dowse in front of family and friends.
If you have skeptical or negative people close to you, and you want people to like you, it will probably be hard to dowse in front of them. They will make fun; make skeptical comments; judge you; even threaten you with bad consequences. It's so unpleasant, you just decide not to dowse in front of them.
Pretty soon, you aren't dowsing much at all, and that makes you a bit resentful about their control over you.
They're afraid, too…
The reason they are acting this way about dowsing is because they are afraid of it. If dowsing was useless, they wouldn't have fear. You don't have to attack things that have no power.
When a family member or friend makes fun of your dowsing, they are afraid. They won't admit it, but they are afraid of the power of dowsing. They are afraid you know something they don't.
If you quit dowsing because of their opinions or because you think they won't like you anymore, you are letting fear rule you. You are giving your power of choice to them and their fear.
How not to be giving your power away: Try a compromise
There's no point arguing about dowsing or trying to persuade skeptics. History has shown it doesn't work. Ever.
But…You don't have to quit dowsing. You don't have to fight about dowsing or try to convert people.
Here's a simple compromise: if you have skeptical family or friends, don't be obvious about your dowsing. Use a deviceless technique. We call it ‘stealth dowsing'.
As long as you aren't holding a tool, people can't easily tell when you are dowsing. You can get dowsing answers right in front of people who are unaware that you dowsed.
That way, you remove the fear from the equation. You also get to use your dowsing ability any time you want.
If someone questions your choice that you got with dowsing, just be honest and tell them it felt right or you had a hunch. Dowsing is focused intuition, and while it is more effective than a hunch or feeling, it's in the same family.
So don't give your power to others. Use dowsing often. Deviceless dowsing is a great compromise when living with skeptics. If you can't change your people-pleasing tendencies and you don't feel like a big fight, stealth dowsing is the way to go.

The Popular Tool
In recent decades, using a pendulum for dowsing has surpassed water dowsing with a Y-rod or forked branch as the hottest trend in dowsing. But there is a problem. As popular as pendulum dowsing is, people aren't really dowsing that much.
I believe one reason is the tool itself. A pendulum is a cool tool. Pendulums come in all kinds of lovely materials and designs. You can get really attached to using a pendulum.
The problem with your attachment to your pendulum is you become convinced you can't dowse without it. You may even have special pendulums for certain dowsing tasks.
Unless you carry your pendulum with you (and the right one at that), you won't feel prepared to dowse all the time. But even if you start carrying your pendulum with you everywhere, you have a much bigger challenge to overcome.
Using a pendulum can hold you back
Pendulum dowsing isn't sweeping the country in part because of the pendulum itself. If you are a dowser, you probably have friends and family who do not believe in dowsing. Some may even be strongly opposed to it. Others maybe just mock you every time they see you using a pendulum. Maybe your spouse won't consider any suggestions you make if they come from pendulum dowsing.
Every time you start using a pendulum in front of anyone, either in public or in private with doubting family, you are put under stress. You may be mocked or rejected for your belief in dowsing. So, because you don't like conflict, and because you can't really explain your belief in dowsing or persuade others to accept it, you find it easier not to get your pendulum out. So you dowse less often than you would like.
There is a solution! Quit using a pendulum. It's just a tool. Dowsing without a tool is just as effective and has the benefit of not being visible in many cases. There are more ways to dowse devicelessly than you can imagine. And it's easy. Just try them and find one that works for you.
You can use your eyelids to blink dowse or rub your finger and thumb together to get answers. When you dowse using a deviceless method, your dowsing becomes invisible. You can get immediate answers to questions without pulling out a tool that causes people to sigh or roll their eyes. Find out what method of deviceless dowsing works best for you.

Finger-Thumb Dowsing Is So Easy!
Deviceless dowsing comes in so many forms. We know of about 20 different ways of dowsing without using any tools at all. Finger-thumb dowsing is probably the most common way of dowsing just using your own hand and fingers.
Sometimes it is called the finger rub method. It doesn't really matter which term you use, because it is such an easy way of dowsing. Like most of the deviceless dowsing methods it is very simple to learn and easy to perform in virtually any circumstance.
All you need is to develop confidence in what you do.
Would anyone ever know you were doing some dowsing if they saw you rubbing your index finger and your thumb together? Of course not! It is a very unobtrusive method indeed. Finger-thumb dowsing can be carried out virtually anywhere under any circumstances.
Again, the only thing which is important for you, the dowser, to know is that there is a consistent and dependable difference between your ‘yes' and your ‘no' response. That's where practice and confidence play their part. That can be acquired by regularly dowsing; making it something you do every day in one way or another.
Obviously, finger-thumb dowsing won't work if your hands are oily for whatever reason. So, if you have just washed your hands with soap, or exposed the fingertips to another source of oil, you should not try to use this deviceless method. The chances are it will not work at all and you'll end up frustrated.
Apart from that brief proviso, check out the brief video below which takes you through this popular method of dowsing without using a pendulum or any other tool.
Finger-thumb dowsing is just one way of dowsing without tools, but is quick and easy to learn. Is this what you use? Let us know in the comments section below
Finger Dowsing: The Basics
Although having a pendulum or other tool always to hand is useful, there will be times when you need to dowse something when you don't have a tool. That's when you turn to deviceless dowsing. This term simply means you don't use a tool such as a pendulum or rods. You just need to know how to use fingers, eyes, arms or whatever else you are comfortable with to get an answer. In this case, the type of deviceless dowsing we'll be talking about is finger dowsing.
There are several variations on finger dowsing. Amongst the various types, this finger link method is one of the more widely known. In all the variations there is a similarity. As a dowser, you are looking for a difference between a ‘yes' and a ‘no' response when you dowse. If you can't tell the difference with whatever tool (or in this case, whichever finger dowsing method) you use, then you have to change to something which will show that difference. The difference is usually in the strength or weakness of the response. In virtually all deviceless dowsing methods it is true to say that a strong response indicates a ‘yes' while a weak response indicates a ‘no'.
How that response is obtained will, of course, depend on which method you are using. The video below takes you through how you can tell the different responses in this particular type of finger dowsing.
It is a simple but effective method. We have seen it used by many different people in a variety of situations; from working with animals to checking vitamins to…well, just about anything!
Watch this short video and you'll see for yourself just how quick and easy it can be.

Blink Dowsing (aka Stealth Dowsing!)
There are many methods of dowsing without using the ‘usual' tools such as pendulum, or l-rod. These ‘deviceless' methods of dowsing are very quick and, when mastered, very subtle. Blink dowsing is probably the most subtle of all.
When we explain to people that blink dowsing is a way of dowsing with your eyelids, people don't believe us. But it's true! It's called ‘blink dowsing' because the blinks you get from your eyelids are your answers.
It's just one of the many ways which you can dowse without using any of the ‘traditional' tools at all. And, once you get the hang of it, it's about the slickest, quickest, easiest and most inconspicuous methods of dowsing you could possible use.
We began to use it when we were working with clients on the phone. We were using a dowsing tool (usually a pendulum) as well as trying to make notes with a pen. And that was before we had headsets and had to hold the phone to our ear as well. Crazy!
We realized that either we needed an extra arm, maybe two, or we needed to do something differently. As we couldn't grow more appendages, we went with the second option and that how we started to use blink dowsing. We could talk on the phone, write notes and dowse without any bother at all.
So, although blink dowsing might sound strange at first, the video below will take you through how to do this for yourself. We're pretty sure it will become your favorite method for dowsing.
Does blink dowsing work for you, or do you have problems? What is your ‘yes' and ‘no'? Is it the same as mine in the video or something different? Share what happens to you in the comments section below
What Is Blind Dowsing?
Blind dowsing is an excellent way of removing yourself from the answer. It teaches you emotional distance, which is very important.
Blind dowsing is when you don’t know what the question is or you don’t know which answer you’ve chosen until later.
Hiding the Question:
Use this type of blind dowsing when you want confirmation from a friend or when you know you are too emotionally involved to dowse accurately.
In this, you simply hold the question (or problem) as clearly as possible in your head as you ask another dowser to get the answer to it. Note: This technique is more accurate if you ask a clear, specific, well-worded question.
Hiding the Question Exercise
With a partner, take turns in blind dowsing the other person’s question. For the person asking the question, do not tell your partner what the question is. Simply have it as clearly in your mind as possible.
Suggestions for the person doing the dowsing: Wait until your partner is ready, then calm your mind. You can ask a question such as, ‘Is the question held clearly enough for me to answer it?’ If so, then dowse whether the answer is either ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
Hiding the Answer:
Use this version of blind dowsing when on your own and you know that you will be too emotionally involved, for example, to dowse accurately yourself.
Hiding the Answer Exercise
Normally, you would have different numbers of ‘yes’ and ‘no’ on scraps of paper which you will have rolled into balls and scattered or shuffled, or you can use cards with the answers on, face down. Here you will be choosing between 4 cards (2 ‘Yes’ and 2 ‘No”) for your answers.
Dowse the following questions, using ONLY the cards with the hidden answers. Only dowse one question before finding out the answer. This will allow us to shuffle cards before your next question. (When using this system on your own, ALWAYS shuffle between questions.)
A On a scale of -10 to +10, would it be a +8 or better for me to have dental work done on me in the near future?
B On a scale of -10 to +10, does my present regime of vitamins and supplements dowse as +8 or better for me nutritionally for me at this time?
Have you tried blind dowsing using either of these methods? If so, what was the result? Did it work for you? Let us know in the comments section below.
