Dowsing Accuracy

(A transcript of the video is below, if you prefer to read.)

Dowsing Accuracy

Dowsing accuracy is, of course, of major concern to all dowsers. It is also of interest to those who have not yet started to dowse. They ask questions like ‘how accurate is pendulum dowsing?, or they wonder if dowsing is accurate in general.

What they are probably thinking when they ask these sorts of questions is whether a dowser is always accurate or not, always gets the right answer.

This, of course, is impossible. Nobody is always right every time they do something. Top athletes who train and train and train and get paid very well to perform a small range of activities, even they are not 100% perfect. So it is not fair to ask if dowsing is 100% accurate, because it’s not fair to define accuracy in that way. The honest answer to the question of accuracy is that, for some dowsers, in a very narrow range of dowsing activity, they can be remarkably accurate, somewhere in the 90% range.

Another honest way to answer this question is to say that it depends. It depends on who is dowsing and what they are dowsing about. Dowsing is a skill. And that means that it can be developed and improved. A newcomer to dowsing would vary greatly in their accuracy because they are still learning and they haven’t yet found the one area they can excel in.

It can also depend on what is being dowsed. If it is something like water dowsing, which most people have heard of, then it is easy to measure the accuracy. After all, the water is going to be there or it is not going to be there. And if it is there, then the flow rate can be measured and you can test it to see if it is drinkable. Those are easy ways to measure accuracy.

Pendulum Proficiency: You Can Learn to Dowse!

But, what of other areas of dowsing, other ways in which it can be used? Some, like dowsing vitamins or discovering energy lines on the earth, are not so easy to measure for accuracy. The vitamins might well be working, but if you’re also changing diet and the way you exercise, that could be the reason for much of the success you think they have. And, with something invisible, like lines of energy, that pretty much has to be taken on faith by any onlooker.

So if you are a dowser and someone who doesn’t dowse asks you how accurate is pendulum dowsing, or the accuracy of dowsing in general, then probably the best response you can have is to get them dowsing and let them decide for themselves.

Happy Dowsing!

What’s your specialty?

What Are You Good At?

Just like in life, so in dowsing. Everyone is good at something but nobody is good at everything.

Some people might be good at a couple of things,  like wallpapering and gardening.

It's exactly the same in dowsing. And that can cause some problems.

When learning to dowse, the temptation is to think that whatever you dowse about you have an equal chance of success. And, because you're starting out and full of optimism and interest in this new skill, you think that every time you dowse you should be spot and accurate.

Well, the truth is that every dowser is good at dowsing something. Some dowsers are simply excellent at dowsing for water, whilst others are great at finding lost objects and still others are superb at some form of health dowsing.

The point is, that the water dowser is not necessarily any good at all at health dowsing. And the health dowser couldn't find water if you stood him in a bucket of it.

And the point of this is….it doesn't matter!

Find YOUR skill

Wanting to be good at dowsing is fine and great. But wanting to be good at all forms of dowsing is not a reasonable goal.

Think of what you are good at in your life and what you will happily let others do instead. And then apply that concept to dowsing.

One of the reasons for this problem is to think that dowsing is some sort of psychic gift and that, of course, psychic gifts, being given to you, are naturally better than your human limited gifts.

But dowsing is not a psychic skill. It is entirely natural. Nothing else. And because it's a human skill, you can make it better, more accurate, by practicing. The more practice you put in, the better you will be. Again, if you think dowsing is psychic, then why bother practicing? After all, you're either psychic or you're not.

Well, as you're human and dowsing is entirely a human-based skill, then the more you do it in the areas you are drawn to, the better you will be.

So, if you find yourself drawn to health dowsing, then go ahead and spend time on it. If you are drawn to dowsing about numbers (stock prices, finances and so on), then practice that. Find out what you are good at and keep honing that skill.

Remember the words of Samuel Goldwyn. ‘The harder I work, the luckier I get.' Only, with dowsing, it's ‘The more I practice, the better I get.'

So, don't just sit there! Get dowsing!

What Is The Truth?

A Big Question

What is the truth and how does it apply to dowsing – your dowsing in particular?

This is a huge subject and there are many areas to consider.

So, rather than write a really long post, I’m just going to ask some questions and let you fill in the answers for yourself.

Ready? Here goes…

  • Is there such a thing as ‘The TRUTH’?
  • What is the truth (about pretty much anything) and how do we know it, when we dowse it?
  • When we dowse something, do we know it is the truth because it fits everything we can test or because it just feels right?
  • Which is more important to getting at the truth in dowsing; feeling right about it or being right?
  • Does either feeing right or being right depend on the situation or on something else? (Call that something else ‘Natural Law’ for want of any better word.)
  • How do we judge what is right? If we are using dowsing about ourselves and what we do, then can we really judge what is right (about our dowsing) in the same way as we judge everything else?
  • If we are too tied up in our own process, can we even judge ourselves and what we dowse and know what is true?
  • Is truth just an idea or is it something bigger than that? And how could you persuade anyone else of the truth of your answer?

Now what do you think of ‘the truth'?

At the end of this list are you as confident now about the truth of something you have dowsed, what it is and how you can explain it to anyone else as you were at the beginning?

Next time you hear someone telling you the ‘truth’ of something they have dowsed, don’t just accept it at face value. Ask yourself how they are so sure it is the truth and how can they convince you of that?

Equally, be cautious about declaring something to be true with your dowsing.

Resolve to Dowse

I Think I Might…

Making New Year's resolutions is popular. I'd like to suggest a resolution for you. And you don't have to wait for January 1st to start doing it. Resolve to dowse.

You have inner knowledge, but instead you look outside yourself for answers. Dowsing is the easiest way to get in touch with your inner knowing, your intuition or your Inner Guru. Yet most dowsers dowse very little.

It's not necessarily their fault, either. It's usually die to the fact that they haven't really been taught very well about how they can use dowsing in their lives. Sadly, most haven't even begun to recognize the very practical ways they can apply this skill easily in what they do every day. Without that insight, that knowledge, they are naturally limited in what they will use it for.

Resolve to dowse today – don't wait for the New Year!

Start a new year by doing whatever it takes to trust your dowsing. Take a course; read a book; participate in online discussion groups. Expand your knowledge and polish your techniques. Then pick up your pendulum or other favorite dowsing tool and start dowsing about things that will make your life calmer, happier and more successful.

Dowsing has totally transformed our lives, and we're pretty sure it can work for you, too. But only if you dowse. Now there's really no excuse to extend your abilities. This site alone has more information on it than I ever was able to encounter when  I started out dowsing!

We know it's a journey, and it can be bumpy. We're here to help. We resolve to help you become the best dowser you can be so your life can be happier, healthier and more fulfilling.

Dowsing, Invisible Energy And You

We're All In It

Invisible energy is always around us. In fact, you are at the mercy of the invisible, and most of the time you will not ever know it!

Consider the following…

Dowsing is just one way of showing that the human body is a very sensitive instrument. The merest invisible twitch of a couple of small muscles happen and the pendulum swings or the rod moves. Although we are holding it, we aren’t aware of that happening, even though we are looking for it to occur!

But there are other things which happen to us and which can and do affect us.

For example, for patients who bleed a lot, or have problems with stopping bleeding, a whopping 82% of them had problems between the first and last phases of the moon, peaking at the full moon. Why?

In England, 200 years ago, there was a legal difference between those who were classed as ‘insane’ (that is, chronically psychotic) and those who were ‘lunatic’ (susceptible to the phases of the moon). The lunatics were dealt with more leniently.

As for the sun… it affects our blood; lymphocytes decreasing during solar explosions, albumin in blood serum dropping during eclipses and during major sunspot activity. It also has an influence on our safety: more accidents occur on the days following an eclipse. There are more admissions to psychiatric hospitals at such times as well. Again, why?

We are more likely to respond better to cancer treatments when they are applied in the evening, melatonin production is sensitive to blue light and our hormones, brain waves and emotional responses can be triggered by extremely low frequency sounds, such as those put out by the earth before earthquakes. Again….

In addition, we can even have our morals adjusted by something as small as a tiny magnetic field applied to a part of the brain for just 500 milliseconds.

There are plenty of studies which show just how we are unconsciously affected by what seem to be the smallest of influences; incredibly weak forces of nature.

Invisible energy and us

So what does all this mean?

It means three things.

  1. We are incredibly sensitive pieces of machinery which, however much we might like to at times, cannot be switched off.
  2. We are constantly being affected….and that’s just by things which science can currently measure.
  3. We don’t know how much we are being affected when we dowse, especially when we are dowsing in the natural environment.

What does it mean for you and me?

It means we really can’t say for certain exactly what it is we are dowsing at times and that we should be aware of that, always.

It also means that, sometimes, we might not be as accurate as we might wish to be…. because of the invisible.

Finally, it means that it is crazy to assume that we know everything.

All we can say is that we probably don’t know half of what we think we know and that any ideas we have about how dowsing works are probably wrong and very likely very wrong.

I suppose it boils down to the fact that humility might be the best tool a dowser can acquire.

Polarity Reversal & How to Fix It

North Becomes South

There are plenty of possible reasons you are getting ‘wrong' answers when dowsing. But one of the most common–and easiest to fix–is polarity reversal. Understanding about polarity reversal and knowing how to fix polarity will improve your dowsing accuracy.

Polarity?

Your body has a polarity, or a north and south orientation, like a magnet. If your polarity is reversed, your dowsing answers are reversed. Yes becomes no. No becomes yes. This can be very frustrating and confusing, and it can put you off dowsing. The good news is that it's relatively easy to fix in most cases.

How to Determine if Your Polarity is Reversed

We usually advocate you begin each dowsing session with a polarity question. That question will be one that should give you a ‘yes' response. Our favorite is, “I was born in ______________in this lifetime.” (Fill in the blank with your birthplace.) You can use any question you know the answer should be yes, but preferably you will use a question you have no emotion about.

If you get ‘yes' to your polarity question, your polarity is balanced correctly. If you get ‘no', then your polarity is reversed.

Fixing Polarity Reversal

There are several ways to restore your polarity. A simple one is the thymus thump. Take either hand. Make a fist. Gently tap your breastbone (sternum) several times while thinking or saying, “Please restore my polarity to right and perfect function.”

Retest your polarity question. If you get the right answer, you're ready to start dowsing.

If you get the wrong answer, do the thymus thump using that intention again. Recheck the question. Normally once or twice doing the thymus thump will restore your polarity.

When You Stay Reversed…

Sometimes a person might find they cannot restore their polarity, but they still want to dowse. You can still dowse, even if your polarity is reversed. You just need to remember that ‘yes' is really ‘no' and vice versa.

However, it is not beneficial to stay reversed. It can lead to a number of symptoms. You might find you are clumsy and trip and fall easily. You perhaps will have difficulty putting coherent sentences together. You may feel prickly and not want to be touched. Also, it is common to feel unworthy and down when you are reversed. Healthy things won't attract you when you are reversed.

Obviously, you don't want to feel that way. So find out why you are reversed and treat the cause.

Common Causes of Polarity Reversal

  • Geopathic stress (noxious environmental energies)
  • Emotional stress
  • Attachment to answers
  • Strong emotions in general
  • Dehydration
  • Not enough minerals in your body

All of these can be resolved and your polarity restored. Dowsing will help you determine which is the cause and even how to help resolve it.

Check Your Polarity Often

Especially if you are in a very important dowsing session, working with clients or not sure you are in a zone of beneficial energy, test your polarity often during the session to make sure it hasn't ‘flipped'. Just do the thymus thump if it has. This is an excellent way to be assured your answers are more accurate.

If you find that your polarity is constantly reversing and you have taken care of all the usual causes, there may be some subconscious issues you have with being empowered or being able to use your intuition or dowse accurately. Usually this will relate to past lives that ended badly, and those energies or beliefs can be cleared, but more advanced techniques are required.

Being aware of the importance of polarity and making sure yours is balanced will go a long way to improving your dowsing accuracy.

A Good Dowsing Question Is A Precious Thing!

Questions And Answers

“You don't see yet, Genry, why we perfected and practice Foretelling?”
“No-”
“To exhibit the perfect uselessness of knowing the answer to the wrong question.”
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin

A lot of time is spent in dowsing classes on asking a good dowsing question. Because your answer is only as good as your question.

Learning how to ask a good dowsing question is complex. It's part art and part science. It's about learning to listen to your intuition while also tapping into your rational mind. In fact, there is so much to know about that subject, you could probably create a two-day workshop on it.

To save you the trouble of searching for a two-day workshop on making a good dowsing question, we've written a book on it instead, full of questions for you and your dowsing.

Dowsing accuracy and confidence go hand in hand. And getting ‘wrong' answers can erode your confidence. Can you remember when you first started dowsing (or maybe you're new, and this is something you've experienced) and you were so excited about using dowsing? And you rushed off and started dowsing about this and that, and it was so much fun to be getting yes and no answers to questions you could never have known the answer to?

But then you started finding out that some of your answers weren't right. And each time you got a ‘wrong' answer, you felt worse. You doubted your dowsing. You doubted your talent. And it almost seemed that doubt led to more mistakes. Has this happened to you?

A good dowsing question is something you grow into

Honestly, when you are learning anything, there is a learning curve. You make mistakes. You make course corrections. Like learning to skate or play piano. You don't expect to be perfect immediately. But somehow, with dowsing, people get discouraged if they make mistakes. They start thinking maybe they can't dowse. Or worse yet, they think maybe dowsing is fake and doesn't work.

Technique and practice are so important in mastering any skill. Dowsing is a skill. You can master it. But you need to know proper technique, and you must practice (unless you're the Mozart of dowsing :)).

Take the time to make a good dowsing question

Taking the time to make a good dowsing question and learning all the factors that go into it can seem boring or tedious. You may be so eager to get dowsing, that you want to skip that stuff. But don't. Take the time to learn how to ask a good dowsing question. Then your answers will be much more accurate. That will cause you to have confidence. And that leads you to enjoy using dowsing more and more.

In the posts on this site, there are often suggestions about asking a good dowsing question. So wander around the site and feel free to add a comment on them. You're welcome to join the forums as well!

For now, I'll just start by saying the first step in asking a good dowsing question is to get a pen and paper and make a list about what your are asking about. Why are you asking this? Why do you want to know? What do you want to know? List the factors how, when, who, where, what and why about your subject.

A good dowsing question is usually long. Writing your question down, at least at first, is helpful. That way, you don't have to focus on remembering it when you dowse. You read it a few times, then focus on getting into a dowsing state and ask, “What's the answer to this question?”

Then write your answer down. It's best if you can confirm the truth of the answer, as that helps you learn.

Don't assume your dowsing was ‘wrong' if the answer appears wrong. Take time to try and see why that could have been the correct answer to YOUR question. In other words, how was the question weak or incomplete, causing that to be a correct answer to that question? That way, you can improve next time.

The 5 Biggest Dowsing Mistakes

Do You Make These Dowsing Mistakes?

What are the 5 biggest dowsing mistakes made that cause dowsers to mistrust their own dowsing?

The following 5 dowsing mistakes, in order from #5 to #1, all contribute to doubt and mistrust about your dowsing response. If you can fix these 5 common errors, you will become a confident,  more accurate dowser.

Top Dowsing Mistakes #5: Being attached to the answers.

When you dowse a question, you are waiting for an answer, and if you have an attachment to a particular answer, or you feel that one answer is good and the other bad, or you are afraid of being ‘wrong' with your dowsing, your accuracy will crash and burn.

No one can teach you how to be detached. Either you are, or you aren't. The first step is never dowse any question that you know you care so much about that there is a ‘right' and a ‘wrong' answer. If you fear hearing the answer, you shouldn't be dowsing it.

Practice your dowsing on things that interest you, but that are not life and death. Learn to recognize how you feel when you are resisting hearing the truth. You may feel tension in your body or you might hold your breath. (You might even hear a little voice in your head making fearful comments.)

See how it feels when you dowse about something you are merely curious about, and compare that to when you try to dowse a serious question. Cultivate a curious attitude whenever you dowse, and know that whatever the truth is will help you in the long run. If you find yourself resisting the answer, don't dowse. Practice on things that you are able to approach with curiosity alone.

Top Dowsing Mistakes #4: Lack of experience.

Sounds obvious, but if you don't dowse, you don't get confident. Lack of practice leads to mistrust when you dowse. Often, people who don't practice only turn to dowsing when they have a serious question they need answered. Unfortunately, dowsing that way is like going to play a concert without practicing at all. If you really want to be able to use dowsing when it counts, you must practice dowsing. And that means starting with small subjects and working up to bigger ones.

Give yourself the chance to learn and grow in your dowsing. Don't expect that you either are great at dowsing or not. Very few people are prodigies. Most have to practice. Enjoy the process of becoming the best dowser you can be. We have found that almost anyone can become an excellent dowser if they do the right things.

Top Dowsing Mistakes #3: Not being aware of the common pitfalls, and not knowing how to remedy them.

All skills have pitfalls. Unfortunately, most dowsers are given the impression that they can dowse just by learning to get a yes/no response with a pendulum or other dowsing tool. Then they go off and dowse, not knowing anything about proper technique or the traps that await them. Even basic dowsing courses rarely touch on important aspects of technique. They tend to focus on the use of the tools, but that is by far the smallest part of learning to be a dowser.

One of the most common dowsing pitfalls that can mess up your dowsing is polarity reversal. The body has polarity, a north and south pole. When those poles get reversed, everything becomes backwards. Symptoms of polarity reversal include feeling prickly and not wanting to be touched; switching left and right; being clumsy with words or with your body; getting things backwards.

A good way to test your polarity is to ask a clear question to which you know the answer. We find that using your birthplace in this lifetime is usually a good polarity question, unless you don't know your birthplace or have some strong negative emotions about your birth. Make a question or statement about your birthplace, such as, “I was born in _____________in this lifetime.” The answer should be ‘yes' if you fill the blank with your birthplace. Retest by inserting a place you were not born, and you should get a ‘no'. What if you got the ‘wrong' answer when you dowsed? Your polarity is reversed.

Polarity can reverse for a number of reasons. The most common are dehydration, improper mineralization of the body; your own emotions and noxious environmental energies.

When your polarity is reversed, ‘yes' becomes ‘no' and vice versa. Nothing is more demoralizing to a dowser than to have his polarity reversed and NOT KNOW IT. Yet it is a common problem.

Make sure you drink plenty of pure water. Get your vitamins and minerals. Water and mineral frequencies are ‘burned up' in intuitive and energy work.

Do not dowse about anything you have strong emotions about, as it can reverse your polarity.

And be aware that if you are in a zone of noxious energies, your polarity can reverse.

Fixing polarity is usually pretty easy. For most people, doing the ‘thymus thump' works fine. Just make a fist with either hand and tap your sternum (breastbone) several times gently while intending to restore your polarity to right and perfect function. Retest your question and see if the answer to your question about where you were born is now correct.

If you cannot fix your polarity no matter how hard you try, by drinking water, moving to a different location or doing the thymus thump, you can still dowse. Just keep in mind that yes is no, and no is yes.

Chronic polarity reversal can be remedied, so if you find that even when dowsing simple questions, your polarity is often reversed, it would be worthwhile to discover the cause and do your best to balance your polarity. Start with things like hydration and mineralization and work your way through to space clearing if things don't become balanced. Or seek outside assistance from someone familiar with this condition and how to balance it.

Top Dowsing Mistakes #2: Not formulating a good dowsing question.

It may seem obvious to say that your dowsing answers are only as good as your questions. As with computers, it's garbage in, garbage out. Therefore, it makes sense to spend appropriate time crafting a specific question that will give you accurate answers. But that takes time, effort and practice. Most courses don't spend a lot of time teaching you how to create good dowsing questions. Furthermore, even if you have taken a course that did cover this important topic, if you are right-brain dominant, you are going to feel like launching right into the dowsing rather than doing a left-brain thing like making up a good question.

We like to tell our students that there are no wrong dowsing answers. Often, there are inappropriate or poorly worded questions that mislead the dowser with answers that do not address his or her true question. The answer you get is the answer to the question you asked. And most of the time, it is an accurate answer for that question, or as accurate an answer as you can get for that question.

Good dowsing questions are usually long, detailed and very specific, because they have to be in order to include all the critical factors of a good question: why, when, what, how, where and who. Often, if you leave one of these factors out of the question, your answer will not be accurate.

Another common problem is the use of vague words that have emotional meaning or multiple connotations, which makes the question unanswerable. ‘Good', ‘for my highest good' and ‘best' are often used in dowsing questions, but if you ask three people what those words mean, you will often get three different answers. Avoid the use of judgmental and trite phrases.

Here's an example: before you dowse whether to commit to the person you are currently in love with, sit down and use your left brain to make a list of the aspects of a committed relationship that are important to you, that will contribute to your happiness. Everyone is different. But include everything from health to finances. Put in values like honesty, open communication and fidelity if they are important to you. Make sure your list includes every aspect of a committed relationship that matters to you.

Next, you can then begin to formulate your question. List the who, what, where, when, how and why as appropriate. For ‘who', that's easy. It's the name of your lover. The ‘what' is your definition of a committed relationship. If your question seems to get too long, substitute a word or phrase for that complete definition of your perfect relationship after intending that the two are now equal for dowsing purposes. Be specific. The ‘where' might actually matter in some cases, so include it if you think it is appropriate to your relationship. ‘When' is vital. The phrase ‘at this time' is a common on in many dowsing questions, as you do need to specify a time for most things. ‘How' and ‘why' are also useful in many dowsing questions.  In this case, the ‘how' may refer to the type of committed relationship, while the ‘why' could refer to the maximum long-term happiness you can experience, or perhaps attaining your spiritual goals by having a life partner who is in alignment with them.

Do not be afraid of long dowsing questions. You may want to write them down at first, so you don't have to remember them. You want to have them clear and in your head, but you don't want to only be focused on the question itself. The goal is to allow this to become easier for you, so that what you are focusing on is not the tool or the question, but that moment between question and answer, the essence of dowsing.

Top Dowsing Mistakes #1: Thinking that just taking a basic dowsing class is enough training to become an accurate dowser.

Or an even bigger mistake, thinking that a friend showing you how to use a dowsing tool is enough to make you a good dowser. Learning to use a dowsing tool, which is the focus of most basic courses, is not complete training. Going to a single course is just the beginning of your dowsing training. Reading and attending conferences and meetings will help you a lot. But I did all of those things, and I soon ran out of ways to improve my dowsing. Nigel learned dowsing in the U.K., and he also found it hard to get the training he wanted.

Luckily, training opportunities are becoming more abundant, affordable and convenient. As dowsing becomes more popular, there are more people offering courses that will show you techniques and applications that can guarantee your dowsing will be as reliable and accurate as you want it to be. You wouldn't take one piano lesson and think that was enough to make you a good pianist. Dowsing is a skill, and like all skills, training will improve performance. Learn from the masters and become the best dowser you can be.
