Spiritual Dowsing

Spiritual dowsing

Spiritual dowsing is something which didn’t really have much of a history before the latter part of the twentieth century. Prior to that time, dowsing was more focused on subjects like water and mineral locations with the beginnings of health dowsing just showing up.

As the century progressed however, for no obvious single reason, there was a surge of interest in using dowsing on non-visible and not-easily-verifiable subjects such as the exploration of ‘energies’ of places and people and objects. This segued into dowsing about the universe and the beings which might or might not inhabit it or interact in some fashion with humanity.

In other words, dowsing changed from being a simple tool with a limited range of applications to a full-fledged multi-purpose activity reaching into any and every aspect of life. One of those aspects came to be known as spiritual dowsing.

However, it is not especially easy to define what exactly constitutes spiritual dowsing. Admittedly, there was a book published under that title, written by Sig Lonegren in 1986. The promotion for this said that it was written for ‘travelers on the spiritual path who would like to see if dowsing can help them along their way’. The book itself explores dowsing as a tool for locating energies found at ancient sacred sites as well as for health and healing.

As you can see, that covers a wide range of possibilities! And that is what makes it difficult to be precise about what constitutes spiritual dowsing and marks it as different from other dowsing applications.

Probably for most people when they talk of spiritual dowsing they mean using dowsing to explore the invisible realms. So, for example, they will dowse about angels and archangels or perhaps something to do with their own spiritual goals.

The point is that the term is so vague as to not mean anything very much. Sure, each person who uses it means something by it, but not everyone has the same definition.

One of the reasons for this term still to be used today is undoubtedly because, for some people, it sounds like something which, if you do it, makes you sound a better person than someone who doesn’t do it. In other words, there is a snobbery of sorts about it. ‘Oh, I’m a spiritual dowser. I’m involved in non-earthly things.’ You get the picture.

Of course, some people will have made a detailed study about whatever it is they have chosen to define as spiritual dowsing and I commend them for their dedication to it.

I can’t really say that it’s something I am interested in mainly because I choose not to make a specific definition about one area of dowsing. To me, dowsing is dowsing no matter what. I might be dowsing one day about the health and diet of one of our cats and the next day dowse about something invisible and intangible, like what is affecting our home to cause a specific physical response.

In other words, dowsing is just dowsing; which is making questions and getting answers. To chunk it up into different areas is not that useful as the same skill set is required no matter what.

Dowsing The Aura

Dowsing The Aura

One of the neat ways you can use dowsing is to explore the aura.

In case you're not entirely sure of what I'm referring to, then think of the aura as the invisible, ever-changing energetic body which surrounds you and which, to some people, is visible. It is where your physical body and the energy of the universe meet.

Dowsing the aura can be achieved in a few different ways, depending on what it is you have in mind.

First, and simplest, is finding out far your aura actually reaches. This is easier to do with two people, but it is perfectly possible to do it by yourself. I'll describe it for two people first and then show how you can do yourself.

The person whose aura is being measured sits or stands in a place with some space around them. The dowser then, when in the dowsing state, asks to see the nearest boundary layer of the aura in front of them. The reason for this is that, to begin with, you have no idea whether you are standing within the aura of not, and, as an aura has several layers, it is easiest to focus on the one in front of you. With your tool or however you choose to dowse, move slowly forward until you get a reaction. Mark that point on the ground.

Now the fun part!

Ask the person to think something sad. Repeat the process starting from the same point as before. Mark the point where the reaction occurred. There is probably going to be a difference in the location of the two marks.

Now ask the person to think happy thoughts and repeat the process. The mark this time will probably again be in a different location. I'm not going to tell much more than that. It's more fun for you to find out when you are dowsing the aura yourself.

What if you have nobody to do this for you? Don't worry! Stand in the middle of a room and ask the same question about the nearest boundary layer, but this time you're going to ask for the reaction when that layer meets the wall. So start walking slowly and mark the point on the ground where you got the reaction.

You can do exactly the same exercises as before, only this time you're using the wall as the reference point.

The second way of dowsing the aura is more complex and involves finding where there might be damage. You want a nice, clean, healthy aura, but everyday living can create holes and tears in it. The simplest way of examining the aura for this detail is to dowse over an outline of the human body and carefully check for damage by using a pointer to find where it might be.

If that sounds confusing, then think of it as map dowsing, Only the map this time is of you and the location is where the aura is not complete.

Try dowsing your aura using one of the methods here and share your results in the comments section below.

Dowsing the chakras

Dowsing the chakras

(Transcript below if you prefer to read)

Before going any further, let’s be clear about what we mean about chakras. Then we’ll move on to pendulums and chakras.

Chakra is a word from the ancient Sanskrit language which roughly translates  as ‘wheel’ or ‘disk’. It might help to think of these as the places where the invisible or energetic aspect of your body meets with the visible, physical body itself, allowing a flow of energy to move through you.

There are considered to be seven major chakras forming a line down the body. But there are also many minor ones as well. For example, the hand has chakras, in the palm and also on the tips of the fingers.

In this video, we’ll be looking at the hand chakras and how you can use a pendulum to check on them. However, you can use the exact same principles on the seven major ones as well.

One thing should be made clear, however, and that is that no matter what pendulum you use, no matter how it is described, it will not clean up or alter any chakra at all. Any alteration to a chakra comes only through your focus, your intent or any number of environmental or emotional factors acting on you.

If you recall that the word ‘chakra’ translates as ‘wheel’, then, in order to be operating properly and effectively, the chakra should be open and able to spin. This is what can be checked using a pendulum.

In this case, you are not asking a question with a yes/no answer, but are using the pendulum to show you how a specific chakra is at that time.

To begin, hold the pendulum as you would normally, but have one fingertip of your opposite hand underneath it. Focus on wanting to see what the energy flow of that chakra is like and expect the pendulum to move in response to that focus.

For most people, the pendulum will describe a circle, clockwise or anti-clockwise. The width of the circle and the vigor or lack of it in the movement will tell you how strongly or weakly that particular chakra is at that time.

Once you have a response over the first finger, try the next and repeat the process. Often you will find that different fingers will have different directions of spin.

Also, you can try the pendulum over the palm chakra, which is usually much more vigorous than the fingertips. Remember that chakras are in constant motion and will vary in how open they are at different times and under different conditions.

This is not the place to go into what any particular response might mean, but, by doing this exercise regularly over several days, you will get a good idea of the general activity of your chakras.

Once you have the idea about your finger and hand chakras, then you can also check your seven main chakras simply by asking to be shown the energy of each chakra, one at a time.

From there you can begin to explore the many, many sites which speak of chakras and what they do.

Have you explored your hand chakras? What did you find? Did they all spin the same way? What else did you notice? Share your experiences or thoughts in the comments section below

Lightworkers are in Danger

Here's Why

Dowsers shouldn't call themselves “Lightworkers”. Not if they want to be safe.

I just used a word I rarely use–‘should'. But I did it on purpose. I want to get your attention.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Karuna™ Reiki Master Teacher. It's common for healers and energy workers to call themselves “Lightworkers”. So what's wrong with that?

Nothing. Unless you like being safe. If you are a crusader and see yourself as someone fighting the forces of Darkness, then that is what you get. You get the forces of Darkness to fight.

There's also an aspect of snobbery here which shouldn't be overlooked.

In a dualistic world, it is tough not to think this way. Lightworkers often find that it's hard to accept that darkness has just as valuable a place here as light. But it's true. You cannot have one without the other. And the harder you try to eradicate one, the stronger it gets. Why? Because the balance overall remains the same. Think of the symbol of yin and yang. Equal amounts of white and black. To keep the symbol intact, if you make the white bigger, you have to also make the black bigger.

Or think about it this way. What do Superman and Batman have in common? Superpowers used for good. And what do they attract? Super Villains with nasty superpowers they use for evil. This is not a coincidence. It's how the world works.

I wish I had a dollar for every dowser and Lightworker I've met who experience the “Superman” syndrome after they commit to using their gifts for ‘good'. I'm not saying it's wrong to commit to sharing your gift. But if you haven't done enough self-work; if you still have a judgmental attitude about right and wrong, you're in for quite a bumpy ride. If you saddle up as a Lightworker, prepare to meet the forces of Darkness.

Lightworkers attract the opposite

That which you fight grows stronger. You are giving your power to it by judging and fighting it.  What you resist, persists. We've all heard the sayings that remind us of this, but do we always apply them? Sadly, no.

I've known prominent professional dowsers and healers who find themselves spending hours a day clearing entities and negative influences and energies. Sometimes it all spins out of control or affects health seriously. But this situation can be avoided.

Don't put out a neon sign saying you're a crusader. Don't be a crusader. That's often how lightworkers see themselves. Just share your gift in a nonjudgmental way. Know that you are making a difference, but be aware when you are judging or labeling people or situations as ‘good' or ‘bad', ‘light' or ‘dark'. That judgment can attract powerful negative energies.

If you find yourself beset by nasty energies, don't be scared or upset. It's teaching you about the reality you are creating. It's teaching you about protection. It's just an opportunity to learn to be detached and nonjudgmental. To see the whole world as perfect, even if it isn't to your liking. It's a HUGE lesson, but it can transform your life and make you a lot more like the Dalai Lama. And he seems to be a totally cool person.

Do you think this is a good argument about ‘lightworkers'? Share your reasons in the comments section below

Tuning In to Your Sixth Sense

Your Sixth Sense

This presentation about ‘Tuning Into Your Sixth Sense', by Maggie & Nigel Percy, was originally given at the American Society of Dowsers' Southwest Conference in Flagstaff, AZ in 2009.

Often, when people dowse, they get locked into the idea that it's all about the tool or about their intuition. Sometimes they think it's both at once. But what about the sixth sense which everyone has? Is that the same as your intuition? Or is it something separate from dowsing?

Where does the sixth sense fit into dowsing? Should it?

If dowsing can be thought of as heightening the intuitive sense, then it would seem to make sense to really practice and become proficient at dowsing. After all, who amongst us does not want to have a well-developed sixth sense? We all do. We all want to have access to that seemingly hidden knowledge.

But how can dowsing actually be used to make our sixth sense, our intuition, really kick in? It's all very well to point out that there is a similarity, but what can actually be done?

This presentation goes into some of those questions and provides examples and insights which you can use as a dowser in your daily dowsing life.

Typical of the interactive style of presentation Maggie and Nigel favor, this talk has audience participation in several ways of sensing things intuitively. Simple exercises with the group involve remote viewing; clearing of space by the group; and sensing and altering hand chakra energies.

Discover how dowsing can help you become more intuitive, even more psychic, in this engaging talk.

(Note: If the lighting in this video seems a little off balance every now and then, don't worry, because it will not spoil it for you. The cameraman made good use of a tricky visual setup. You'll get all you need and want from it… promise!)

Dowsing Your Hand Chakras

Hand Chakras And Dowsing

Everyone has hands, so everyone has hand chakras. Although many people know about the seven major chakras running down your body, the ones in the palms of your hands are perhaps the easiest to explore with dowsing. Watch the video below to see how!

In case you're still not sure what we're talking about here, the hand chakras are those things that you are introduced to if you have ever done any healing or simply been in a group where you experimented with energy. You know the sort of thing. You rub your hands together and then get to feel something like a balloon between your hands, a sort of pressure there, although you can't see a thing.

And, because you can't see what's going on, it's ideal for using dowsing to explore it for you.

And the reason you rub your hands to begin with? That's to activate them. At least, activate them more than usual. After all, there's always energy flowing through you and out of your palms and your fingertips, so your chakras are always working. At least, they should be!

And if they aren't? How would tell, if you can't see them? Apart from any physical issues which would arise, the easiest way is to use a pendulum, as the video below shows.

After watching it, I think you'll agree that it's true to say that the hand chakras can be fun to play with.

Follow the video

So, briefly, using a pendulum to dowse the hand chakras can be both useful and entertaining. This video show you how.

Follow along with the video and see if you can get to open and close it and watch the pendulum as you do so. Like everything else, practice makes perfect, so if it's not working for you right away, don't worry! Keep at it.

If you check in on them regularly, you'll also get to see how they can change over time and with how your feeling. It's a fascinating thing to do.

Energy Streams From Your Finger Tips

Energy and your hands

We all take our hands very much for granted. They are amazingly complex mechanisms.

But they are also much more than that. They are also where the energy we are all part of can be discovered with the aid of a pendulum, and the video below will introduce you to some ideas you can follow.

Dowsing is a wonderful tool. It allows you to discover things that you cannot see. Things like the energy which flows through you all the time. It's amazing when you let your pendulum show you the energy pouring from your fingertips. This video takes you through the simple process of using a pendulum to check on the energy flowing from your fingertips.

Energy at your fingertips!

The fingertips are really good places for using a pendulum, because they are easy to access with a pendulum. The central part of the hand, the palm, is where most healers are familiar. It's where there is a big chakra which is central to most energetic healing. You can discover about how to use dowsing to explore the hand chakras.

The great thing about dowsing over the fingertips, though, is that you can see differences in the energy that can be due to past injuries or blockages. By following the process shown in the video, you can discover a great deal about yourself.

You don't have to do it every day, but checking up on how the energy is flowing through you is a useful thing to do. If something is not quite right further back up your arm, then it will usually show itself in a difference in how the energy comes out of the fingertips. Of course, you have to know how it is normally to know whether there is any difference!

Watch the video to see how to do it (it's really easy!) and then begin to experiment for yourself. Like so many other things, you get better at dowsing because you dowse. And the more you dowse, the better you get.

So, watch and then practice. And share your results in the comments section below.

Crystal dowsing can be revealing

Crystal Dowsing

Crystal dowsing is just one of the many ways the simple skill of dowsing can be used. Many people buy and use crystals in various way; either as decoration or as a healing modality.

However, crystals have many properties, and you can use dowsing to explore what is going on in far more detail than you would have thought possible. Discover more about them using simple dowsing techniques by watching the video below.

The uses of crystals

Crystals of all kinds have been used for healing, protection, meditation and spiritual enlightenment, among other things. Many people use them for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, they just look attractive and are good to have around. Other people use them deliberately in healing modalities.

Whatever your association with crystals, there is much which can be dowsed about them. Grab your pendulum and explore the energy of any crystal you have. They will all be a bit different.

For example, if you take this video as a starting point, you might find that certain types of crystals which you use for similar purposes might exhibit similar characteristics when you dowse over them. Or maybe not. You can find out.

Remember, of course, to always have a clear idea of what it is you want to dowse about. The dowsing question is hugely important, otherwise you will end up not knowing what it is you have discovered!

As the video shows, you can explore crystals in a variety of ways using a pendulum. It doesn't really matter the size of the crystal either, as even very small ones can be dowsed over if you use a pointer to be precise about which area you are interested in.

One suggestion for your own exploration would be to watch the video and just do what I did over one of your crystals and see what happens. Then, once you have the feel for it, you can begin to go off on your own.

Try with some precious or semi-precious stones and then compare them with something like an obsidian (for example) and see what, if any, the differences are.

Of course, we'd love to hear what you find, so please let us know by leaving a comment in the section below. Thanks!
